Operation “Bluecoat” – June 2003

Monty’s Men - 9th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry (DLI), of the 151st (Intermediate) Infantry Brigade 50th (Tyne Tees) Division comprising Platoon HQ with 3 sections and accompanied by 2 AFPU cameramen (Sgt Jeff Ball and Sgt Gary Hughes). This trip involved visits to the museum at St Martin De Besaces dedicated to Operation “Bluecoat” plus significant monuments and battlefield sites together with a “Living History” phase. This phase comprised patrolling as well as the establishment of dug in positions. Shown here is a selection of photographs from this phase of the trip that hopefully captures some of the atmosphere of the original photos taken by the AFPU cameramen that accompanied the units of the 50th Division on the push through France in June 1944.
